During his working career, Mr. Kernen saw that his finance, administrative, governance, planning, and best practices experience would translate to providing administrative needs for Christian Ministries. In 2007, Mr. Kernen joined with a group of Christian business executives to discuss the opportunity to help individuals match their business expertise with Christian ministry administrative needs.

Mr. Kernen currently serves as President of the SCOLBE Board of Directors. He is President of Kernen Family Investments, LLC and Kernen Partners, LLC (asset management).

During his thirty year career at the Omaha World Herald, he served as Senior Vice President and CFO, Director of Administrative Services and Treasurer. He served on the Board of the Omaha World-Herald Company, Election Systems and Software Inc, and World companies, Inc.

Mr. Kernen has provided leadership for establishment of foundations for United Way of the Midlands and Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha, Inc. He has served on several not-for-profit corporation boards: United Way of the Midlands and Foundation, Concordia University and Foundation-NE, Concordia College-AL, Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha Foundation-Omaha, NE, LCMS Foundation-St. Louis, MO, Service Corps Of Lutheran Business Executives-Omaha, NE, and Wheat Ridge Ministries-Itasca, IL.

Mr. Kernen has served on finance and/or investment committees for United Way of the Midlands, Omaha Community Foundation, LCMS Foundation, Inc., LCMS NE District, Concordia University-NE, Concordia College-AL, and Wheat Ridge Ministries.

Bill and Leona are members of the St. Mark Lutheran Church, Omaha, NE where they share their time, talent and treasure. In addition, they have blessed their community and church at large with gifts to several fund raising campaigns.

The Kernen's have been recognized with the "Spirit of Giving" in 2007 awarded by ALDE Heartland Chapter, "Faith in Action" in 2008 awarded by Lutheran Family Service - Nebraska, "Crest of Christ" in 2011 awarded by Concordia University - NE, and the "Legacy Award" in 2011 awarded by Concordia Lutheran High School - Omaha.
